What are the start times of the four races?

The sprint triathlon will begin at 8 AM, the mud run will begin at 9:30 AM, the 5K Run will begin at 9:45AM, and the 3K Walk will begin at 10:00 AM.

What is the cost of registration for each race?

Triathlon

If you are participating in the triathlon as a single participant, the registration fee is $55 dollars from January 16th – April 9th. After April 9th, the price increases to $65 dollars. If you are participating in the triathlon as part of a relay team, the registration fee is $100 from January 16th – April 9th. After April 9th, the price increases to $110 dollars. If you are participating in the triathlon as par of a student organization relay team, the registration fee is $70 dollars from January 16th – April 9th. After April 9th, the price increases to $80 dollars.

Duathlon

If you are participating in the duathlon as a single participant, the registration fee is $55 dollars from January 16th – April 9th. After April 9th, the price increases to $65 dollars.  If you are participating in the duathlon as part of a relay team, the registration fee is $100 dollars from January 16th – April 9th. After April 9th, the price increases to $110 dollars.

Mud Run/5K/3K/Remote Race

If you are participating in the Mud Run, 5K, or 3K the registration fee is $20 dollars.

Where is the starting line for each race?

The Triathlon will start in the Aquatics Center on Ohio University’s campus in Athens, Ohio.  The 5K will start outside of Walter Fieldhouse, close to Parking lot 134 near the intersection of Oxbow Trail and South Green Drive. The 3K and the Mud Run will start in Peden Stadium.

Where do the races end?

All four races end inside Walter Fieldhouse.

Where is parking for the event?

On the weekends, parking is free on campus. DO NOT park in metered spots and please pay attention to signs posted about parking regulations. Parking maps can be found here: http://www.ohio.edu/athens/parking/. It is recommended to park in the lots surrounding The Convocation Center. Please note parking lot 134 (Walter Hall Parking) will be used as the transition area for the Triathlon so you will not be able to park there.

Are there any overall or age group awards?

Yes, there are awards for age groups. Runners must be present to receive their award.

Are results available from previous years’ running of the race?

What portion of the entrance fee goes to the charity that I designate?

Ten dollars ($10) or half of the $20 Mud Run, 5K, and 3K entry fees will go to the charity you indicate on the registration form.  The same amount, ten dollars ($10), will be donated for each triathlon entry.

Will there be mile markers?

Yes, there will be mile markers on the running sections of the races.

Will there be chip timing?

Yes, we use HFP Racing to handle the chip timing for the races.

All pre-registered triathletes will receive timing bracelets which must be picked up on race day. 5k and Mud Run pre-registered participants will receive bibs and timing chips (excluding 3k Walk participants).

Will there be a wave start?

Yes, there will be a serpentine start for the swimming portion of the triathlon. The 5k, Mud Run and 3k walk do not have wave starts.  More competitive and faster participants should line up closer to the beginning.

When and where is packet pickup?

Packets can be picked up on the following times and at the following locations:

  1. Thursday, April 23rd from 4:00-7:00pm at OhioHealth O’Bleness Hospital.
  2. Friday, April 24th from 11:00am until 9:00pm at Buffalo Wild Wings.

*All triathletes are still required to check-in at pre-race registration on April 25th to receive their timing chip.

Late Packet Pickup will be inside Walter Fieldhouse beginning at 6:00am.

Will there be race-day registration?

Yes, but you will not get to choose the charity that $10 of your registration fee goes to. You also will NOT get a timing chip if you register the day of the race.

How long are the races?

  • Sprint Triathlon:
    • 500M Serpentine Swim in the Ohio University Aquatic Center
    • 25K (15 mile) Bike Ride out to The Plains and back
    • 5K (3.1 mile) run through campus and back along the bike path ending in Walter Fieldhouse
  • Mud Run:
    • 4 mile run up to the ROTC Course, through the Radar Hill Trail and back to Walter Fieldhouse
  • 5K Run (3.1 mile):
    • Run through campus, around AMVETS Post 76 and back along the bike path ending in Walter Fieldhouse
  • 3K Walk (1.9 mile):
    • Walk down the bike path toward OhioHealth O’Bleness Hospital, loop back around to end in Walter Fieldhouse

What will happen after the race?

After the race, Fitness Fest will be in Walter Fieldhouse. At Fitness Fest, there will be local vendors for all to enjoy, refreshments for race participants, music and an awards ceremony.

What do I do at the finish line?

First, CELEBRATE! You completed your race and raised funds for a great cause. Second, triathletes, please return your race chip to a race volunteer. Finally, grab some refreshments and enjoy Fitness Fest and our Post Race Concert.

What kinds of obstacles are in the Mud Run?

The obstacles for the mud run include a low wall, a high wall, a tire obstacle, a slip-n-slide, a mud crawl and hay bales.

Should I bring a change of clothes if I run the Mud Run?

Yes, you will get muddy!  We will have a bag check at registration where you can securely leave your belongings and then pick them up during Fitness Fest near the finish line.

Are there water and aid stations along the course?

Yes, water and aid stations will be in the following locations:

  • Transition area for the Triathlon
  • Halfway point of the 5K course
  • On the bike path near OhioHealth O’Bleness Hospital on the 3K course
  • Before and after the ROTC course for the Mud Run

Are dogs permitted?

Dogs are NOT permitted

Are strollers permitted?

Yes, strollers are allowed on the 5K and 3K courses only.

Can I use an iPod, cell phone, Walkman, or headphones?

No, insurance restrictions prohibit the use of these devices.

Is the race wheel chair accessible?

The 5K and 3K courses are wheel chair accessible.

Is this a closed course?

No, please be aware of your surroundings and nearby traffic. There will be police at busy intersections to help direct the flow of the race.

If I’m already signed up, but can no longer compete, can I get a refund?

Unfortunately, we do not offer refunds, but the $10 from your registration will still be donated to the charity of your choice.

When should I arrive on race day?

Registration for the triathlon begins at 6:00 AM on race day. Registration for the 5K, 3K, and Mud Run begins at 8:00 AM on race day.

Will there be restrooms and where?

Restrooms will be available pre-race in Walter Fieldhouse and near Walter Hall and Grover Hall and after the race in Walter Fieldhouse.

Will I receive a T-Shirt?

T-Shirts are guaranteed for the first 500 people who sign up.
